According to TechCrunch, the funding round amounted to $30 million, with a valuation of $180 million, led by Eric Vishria, a partner at the renowned venture capital firm Benchmark. However, sources indicated that the deal has not yet been finalized, and specific terms may still be adjusted.
Greptile was founded by Dasksh Gupta, who started his entrepreneurial journey after graduating from Georgia Tech in 2023. Greptile entered the Y Combinator incubator in the winter of 2024 and successfully raised a $4 million seed round led by Initialized Capital after completing the program.
Gupta revealed that the code review robot developed by Greptile acts like an experienced colleague, deeply understanding customers' code to identify errors and potential issues that human reviewers might miss.
However, the AI field is extremely competitive, and Greptile faces challenges from multiple strong competitors. One of the biggest rivals is Graphite, which secured a $52 million Series B round earlier this year, led by Accel, with participation from Anthropic's Anthology Fund, Menlo Ventures, and a16z. Another significant competitor, Coderabbit, raised $16 million in a Series A round led by CRV last year.
To respond to the competition, Greptile required employees to work long hours, causing controversy. In November last year, Gupta, who is 22 years old, posted on social media that Greptile "lacks work-life balance," with employees typically working from 9 am to 11 pm, and often also working on weekends. This statement quickly sparked heated discussions, and Gupta later told several media outlets that surpassing competitors requires each team member to give their maximum effort. He emphasized, "No one cares about a company ranked third or second in the software industry. If you only put in 95% of your effort, it's as if you did nothing."
Despite the controversial work culture, attracting top-tier venture capital firms like Benchmark and achieving a healthy valuation in the Series A funding round may provide a strong boost to Greptile's development.
