Recently, OpenAI has launched a highly anticipated new feature on macOS - the ChatGPT audio recording and transcription mode. This feature is designed for paying users to help them more efficiently record and analyze various audio content, such as meetings, brainstorming discussions, and personal voice notes.
Since the release of an update video in early June, this new feature has been highly anticipated. However, currently, this feature is only available to GPT-4o paid users on the macOS system, and the supported paid types include Plus, Enterprise, Edu, Team, and Pro workspaces. Notably, Android and Windows users, as well as web-based ChatGPT, cannot use this feature at the moment, which has disappointed some users.

So, how does this recording mode work exactly? It can capture both the microphone and system audio, and generate text records and intelligent summaries in the chat interface. The generated summaries will have timestamps, which allows users to easily find and review specific periods of a meeting. In addition, ChatGPT will use previous recordings and text records to provide more accurate and useful responses.
In terms of usage, the maximum duration for each recording is 120 minutes. After exceeding this time, the recording will automatically stop and be transcribed, with the transcribed content uploaded to a private canvas. It should be emphasized that OpenAI will not retain the original audio; the original recording will be deleted immediately after transcription. Additionally, the recorded audio will not be used for model training. However, if users enable the "Improve the model for everyone" feature, OpenAI may review the transcribed text for model improvement.
For users of team, enterprise, and educational workspaces, they are defaultly excluded from model training. Workspace owners can also choose to turn off the recording feature in the settings.
