Recently, researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Germany conducted an interesting study that revealed the significant impact of AI on human language. Especially driven by AI chatbots like ChatGPT, "GPT vocabulary" is increasingly appearing in everyday conversations.
The study started in a rather impressive way. The research team input millions of texts written by humans, including emails, academic papers, and news reports, into ChatGPT to see how this AI would "polish" these texts. Through this process, researchers identified the vocabulary preferred by AI, such as "delve," "meticulous," "emphasize," "support," and "ask." These words are gradually becoming the "new favorites" in our daily communication under the influence of AI.

To verify the frequency of use of these "GPT vocabulary" words, the research team also tracked and analyzed 360,000 YouTube videos and 771,000 podcast episodes before and after the release of ChatGPT. The results showed that these AI-preferred words have become more prominent in English spoken language. Research co-author Levin Brinkmann pointed out that the language patterns stored in AI seem to be influencing human thinking. We consciously or unconsciously start imitating those we consider wise or important, and nowadays many people view AI as such a presence.
Of course, language itself is a continuously evolving process influenced by many factors. However, this study provides a new perspective, showing how humans and AI influence and evolve together. The increasing use of "GPT vocabulary" in our daily conversations not only reflects the impact of technology on us but also prompts us to think about the future evolution of language.
